Electronic Software

Electronic software and databases are covered by copyright law. There are usually terms and conditions attached to their use, even if they are free. Before you copy or distribute any electronic work check the terms of use in the licence. If there are no restrictions on use this will be clearly stated.

University Information Technology (UIT) licenses and distributes the software used in teaching, research and administration at York University. Information on what software you can access as a York student is available on the York Computing site. Faculty and staff can obtain details on software licensing through York IT Services.

The use of York University’s computing and network services is governed by several policies. In particular, the Senate Policy on Computing and Information Technology Facilities provides general guidelines for use of these facilities.
