Changes to Moodle

As of December 27, 2014 faculty members or support staff will be required to identify the basis on which they are able to post a copyright-protected work to Moodle by selecting from a range of drop down options (e.g. permission was obtained from the copyright holder, York University Libraries’ licensed content, public domain, fair dealing, etc.). For a guide to all the copyright status options visit: http://copyright.info.yorku.ca/copyright-status-options-for-materials-uploaded-to-moodle/

York University Support

As instructors must comply with the Copyright Act, you are encouraged to utilize the services of the Copyright Support Office as you prepare your course materials. If you would like the content of a York LMS reviewed to ensure that it is copyright compliant, simply email the bibliographic information for each selection you would like to use to the Copyright Support Office at copy@yorku.ca. Staff will:

  • Create permanent links to Library content;
  • Determine if selections fall within the York Fair Dealing Guidelines;
  • Scan materials that can be uploaded to your Moodle site; and
  • Provide guidance on your choice of materials throughout the course.

Information sessions will continue to be held over the coming months to assist faculty and staff. A list of upcoming dates can be found here.

For more information or assistance with your decisions in copying or posting, contact York University’s Copyright Support Office at copy@yorku.ca.
