Many faculty members and students at York University are copyright owners as well as users of copyrighted materials.
The rights you control after publication of your work will be detailed in the legal contract you have signed with your publisher. You may retain some, but not all, rights to your work. Academic publishers generally request that a condition of publication is signing a Copyright Transfer Agreement. It can restrict future use of your work and limit how your research is shared with colleagues and students.
Information on copyright protection and knowing your rights can be found at York’s Libraries Scholarly Communications Initiative.
