Dec. 12, 2011 Update:
York University Libraries subscribes to hundreds of databases that include millions of journal articles, newspaper articles, and eBooks. For each of these databases, York signs a license that grants certain permissions regarding how we can use the materials in these databases for specific purposes. Most databases allow you to link to material, but some also allow you to include material in course packs and post materials in Moodle (York’s Course Management System).
In the past, students and faculty had no immediate way of knowing what rights were included with each database. Now, in collaboration with Scholars Portal, we have created a database that will show you exactly what is permitted under the terms of the licensing agreements that we have with each database provider. This license information will show up in your results when you search the library catalogue, as well as on the Find it @ York menus. Click here for an update on the progress of this project.
PLEASE NOTE: This menu will only appear for some of the databases in our collection. The license database only includes the products licensed through the OCUL and CRKN consortia of libraries. However, over the coming months, we will be adding Terms of Use information for all of the databases in the library’s electronic collections.
